Australian Social Value Bank

Who we are

The Australian Social Value Bank (ASVB) is a certified social enterprise developed by Alliance Social Enterprises (ASE), an Australian not-for-profit established in 2016 by three regional community housing providers to make robust social impact measurement accessible, affordable and practical.

The ASVB was developed in partnership with Simetrica-Jacobs, a global leader in wellbeing valuation and policy evaluation, combining internationally recognised methodology with Australian wellbeing data to provide organisations with an easy-to-use, credible, transparent and consistent approach to measuring social impact.

The ASVB was created because measuring social impact in Australia was often expensive, technically complex and inconsistent across different programs and sectors. Today, we help organisations understand, measure and communicate the difference their work makes, enabling better decisions, stronger funding applications and greater confidence that investments are creating meaningful outcomes for people and communities.

What we do

The Australian Social Value Bank helps organisations measure, value and communicate the difference their work makes.

Most organisations can report what they deliver, such as the number of people supported, services provided or activities completed. It is often much harder to demonstrate the value of the changes created in people’s lives in a way that funders, customers, government, investors, boards and communities can readily understand.

The ASVB provides a practical and credible way to move beyond activity and output reporting to measure social impact.

An ASVB subscription combines an online Social Value Calculator with pre-valued social outcomes, practical resources, training and personalised support. Using Australian wellbeing data and internationally recognised wellbeing valuation methodology, the platform estimates the social value created when people experience meaningful changes in their lives.

Organisations use the ASVB to:

  • measure the social value created through programs, services, projects and investments
  • forecast the potential impact of proposed initiatives
  • compare different programs and investment options
  • demonstrate value for money through Cost-Benefit Analysis and a benefit-cost ratio
  • strengthen grant applications, tenders, procurement responses and evaluation reports
  • communicate impact clearly to boards, funders, customers and other stakeholders
  • produce professional Social Impact Valuation Statements supported by transparent evidence and assumptions.

The ASVB is designed to make robust social impact measurement more accessible and proportionate. Rather than commissioning a complex economic evaluation, organisations can use an established methodology, Australian evidence and guided tools to build a credible assessment of the value they create.

Whether you are measuring one program, assessing the potential value of a new investment or building an organisation-wide approach to impact measurement, the ASVB provides the tools and expert support to help you measure what matters and use the results to make better decisions.
