Who we are
Hope Connect Australia is a social enterprise founded and directed by Ritu Bala, who brings over fifteen years of experience in housing, homelessness, community services, and social work. Ritu established the organisation out of direct professional experience with the gaps people face when trying to access the right support at the right time. As the organisation grows, it aims to expand its leadership through partnerships, volunteers, community advisors, and people with lived experience of the challenges it addresses.
Hope Connect Australia's mission is to empower individuals and families experiencing housing stress, financial hardship, and social disadvantage by connecting them with appropriate support and helping them build stability and long-term wellbeing. Its work is guided by six core values:
- Compassion: treating every person with dignity, empathy, and respect
- Empowerment: supporting people to make informed decisions and build independence
- Equity: advocating for fair access to services and opportunities for all
- Collaboration: working alongside community organisations, service providers, and stakeholders to achieve better outcomes
- Integrity: operating with honesty, accountability, and transparency
- Inclusion: valuing diversity and creating a welcoming environment for all communities
What we do
Hope Connect Australia provides community-based service navigation and support for individuals and families who are struggling to access housing, financial assistance, or community services. Service navigation means helping people understand what support exists, who can help them, and how to get it, particularly when the system feels complicated or hard to access.
Core services include:
- service navigation and referral support
- housing and homelessness assistance pathways
- financial hardship support and brokerage referrals (connecting people to emergency financial assistance funds)
- advocacy and community service coordination
- culturally responsive support for people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds
- information, guidance, and connection to specialist services
- community outreach and social inclusion initiatives
Hope Connect Australia is currently developing a community-based service navigation model specifically designed to assist individuals and families experiencing financial hardship and housing instability, alongside building referral partnerships with community organisations and local stakeholders. Its intended outcomes include improved confidence in navigating service systems, reduced barriers to housing and financial assistance, and stronger connections between vulnerable individuals and the services that can help them.
