South Australian Social Enterprise Council (SASEC)

Who we are

The South Australian Social Enterprise Council (SASEC) is an independent, non-political, member-based peak body incorporated in South Australia. SASEC was founded by practitioners with deep roots in the social enterprise and community sectors, and it is governed by a board made up of people with experience across business, government, and not-for-profit organisations.

SASEC exists to grow and strengthen the social enterprise sector across South Australia. Its vision is to build the capacity and confidence of social enterprises in the state.

SASEC's approach is collaborative. It works to connect social enterprises with each other, with government, and with the broader community.

SASEC serves two main audiences: people and organisations running social enterprises or in the process of creating one, and supporters of the movement who want to stay connected and contribute to the sector's growth.

What we do

SASEC works across three broad areas: advocacy, sector development, and community building. Its work is focused on South Australia, but connects to national and global conversations about social enterprise.

Advocacy and policy

SASEC gives social enterprises a collective voice. It builds relationships with government and across the sector to influence policy and drive systemic change, meaning changes to the rules, funding systems, and structures that shape how social enterprises can operate. It also promotes the value of social enterprise to the broader public and to decision-makers.

Sector development

SASEC informs, educates, and supports social enterprises to build sustainable futures. Its online resource library is organised around five stages of enterprise development, from early vision through to established operation, and covers topics including funding, research, and expert networks.

Community and collaboration

SASEC acts as a connector, bringing social enterprises together with each other, with government, and with business and the broader South Australian community. It runs regular informal member events and maintains a public directory to help enterprises find partners and buyers.
